Clive Geller

Maccabi: Living Flame – our future in your hands

Clive Geller is the Senior Vice-President of Maccabi Great Britain. He will be bringing a marvellous BAFTA-premiered film, showing how Maccabi came about and then sharing with us some anecdotes from his many years working for Maccabi internationally.

Maccabi GB has flourished for nearly 80 years. Part of a global movement operating in over 70 countries, it supports the long term future of British Jewry by engaging and developing the entire Jewish Community with a broad range of sporting, educational, social, health and wellbeing activities, whilst promoting Jewish Identity and the centrality of Israel.

Clive joined Maccabi at the age of 11 and has been involved with the organisation ever since! He instigated Maccabi Tours and has been on the Maccabi World Union Executive based in Ramat Gan. He has also helped create Radio Great Ormond Street Hospital and has been responsible for raising monies for charities both in Great Britain and Israel, particularly for Special Needs children and young adults with learning difficulties, leading to opportunities to address the Knesset and meet with Shimon Peres and Yitzak Shamir.

Session 2      David Collier

Israel & Antisemitism - Challenges and Opportunities

Following David’s gripping but all too brief talk in last November’s Shabbat Kodesh programme, we have asked him to come to CLC to give us an expanded and illustrated exposition of what he sees as the state of play in Israel and in British politics and where we go from here. David will devote time at the end of his presentation for questions and answers and surely a lively discussion!

David Collier is a member of CNSS and a Jewish News columnist. He spent nineteen years in Israel and worked on creating joint Israeli /Palestinian projects during the Oslo process. For the last two decades he has been fighting Israel’s corner and is in the front-line of the battle against the boycott Israel movement and the delegitimisation of the Jewish state. Since his return to the UK in 2006, he spent several years ‘undercover’ with British anti-Zionists and is best-known for his efforts in exposing antisemitism within the British Labour party. He is currently writing a book that focuses on the history of the conflict.
