BES Shul Shabbat Attendance Registration

Please register here if you would like to attend Shabbat services at BES during COVID-19 limitations. Friday night and Shabbat morning service will take place at Croxdale Road and Yavneh, and Friday night services in Elstree will run alternate weeks in Allum Hall (booking options will be available for weeks the service is running). Registration is usually open from Sunday morning until 4.00pm Wednesday afternoon of the preceding week.

Please click here to book for weekday services (including Sunday, and Friday Shacharit) at Croxdale Road only.

By continuing with this registration you are acknowledging that outside of a change in your isolation status or a genuine emergency you are commiting to being available to attend the service. This is the first part of a 2 step process and attendance will be confirmed back to you in writing on Thursday. If you are unsuccesful please don't attend as you will be turned away.

All services will be socially distanced with a limited number of people allowed to attend. Facemasks must be worn and singing will not be allowed. Anybody who has COVID-19 symptoms, or has been exposed to someone in the previous 2 weeks who then tests positive, must not attend any services at BES.

As you know, pikuach nefesh - preserving life - is a religious imperative that overrides all other mitzvot. Although it is difficult not to be able to participate in communal activity, our primary concern must be for our health and safety and that of other people. Therefore, if you are vulnerable we advise that you do not attend but if you choose to then we ask you exercise extreme caution.

As you can appreciate, the social distancing rules severely reduce the Shul’s capacity, therefore, spaces will be limited and allocated on a prioritisation system the criteria for which has been designed by Rabbi Chapper with guidance from the London Bet Din. You will be asked to place yourself against one of the categories as part of this registration process.

A decision committee will review all registrations and where there is surplus demand and registrations of equal priority, a lottery will be run by the decision committee to allocate spaces. In the event someone misses out but there is availability for other services in the same booking period the decision committee will contact those who have missed out to see if they want to attend one of those instead.

You will be contacted at the E-Mail address you use for registration on Thursday to confirm you have a place - if you have not been contacted, or you have been contacted saying you do not have a place, please DO NOT attend the service as you will be turned away.

Places are reserved for both men and women at all services and slots must be booked for all those who are attending.

Children from Year 4 upwards and Bar / Bat Mitzvah siblings of any age are are welcome to attend. Children must be booked alongside their parents and only attend if their place has been confirmed in the normal way. All children must wear a mask at all times, remain seated with their parent or guardian and comply with all other protocols. Please consider if your child is able to meet these standards before booking them in - we would hate to have to ask anyone not to attend. At this point there will be no CRP attendance recording at any BES service.

We also hope to restart Shabbat morning activities for children in November - more information on this will follow in due course, and will also be based on all those who are attending booking online beforehand.

Dates will only show below for services which are currently open for booking (generally from Sunday to Wednesday of the week before). If no dates are shown, please check back between Sunday and Wednesday. If you receive a message "One of the selected tickets is no longer available" it might also mean booking for that date isn't open yet.

Stewarding: We need people to assist with stewarding the services - at least one for each service and potentially two or three for busier services. If you are able to assist with this, please select the appropriate option when booking. We will then get in touch to confirm if you are needed and will ask you to arrive 15 minutes early. Many thanks for your assistance.

Winter Weather: All doors and windows will be open for the duration of the service. Please ensure you dress appropriately for the weather, and if you are vulnerable to the cold you may wish to choose not to register to attend Shul.

Service Times:

  • Friday night services are at the time of Shabbat, at Croxdale Road and Yavneh, and also fortnightly at Allum Hall (if Allum Hall isn't an option to book, the service is not running)
  • Shabbat morning services are at 9.30am at Croxdale Road and 10.00am at Yavneh. We are also trialling on some weeks a second earlier service at Croxdale at 8.45am which will finish at about 10.30am. This will continue subject to demand.
  • Shabbat Mincha will take place at Croxdale Road at the time that Shabbat started. At Yavneh it will follow Musaph and a Shiur.
  • Weekday services are at Croxdale Road only. Shacharit is 8.30am on Sunday and 7.30am Monday to Friday. Mincha and Ma'ariv on Sunday will be at the time of Shabbat on the preceding Friday. Monday to Thursday Mincha will be at 1.30pm and Ma'ariv will be at 7.00pm.
  • Weekday (including Sunday) Mincha and Ma'ariv will be in the Old Shul at Croxdale Road. All Shacharit services will be in the Main Shul.

Note service times may change on special days (eg Rosh Chodesh, Bank Holidays etc). The confirmed time will always be in the ticket booking information below.

Following the move into Tier 4, although Places of Worship are permitted to continue running services, it is the view of the Senior Leadership Team that for the safety of the community, BES services will unfortunately be suspended until further notice.

Sunday and Weekday Shacharit and Maariv services followed by a brief learning programme will run online at the following times

  • Shacharit: Sunday 8.30am, Monday to Friday 7.30am.
  • Ma'ariv: Sunday at the time of Shabbat on the preceding Friday, Monday to Thursday 7.00pm
